The influence of Chicago and Detroit techno lingers on the backseat in this six-minute joy-ride of sprawling atmospheric electronica. On the flipside, Snake amply showcases a different, more collaborative side to Acid Washed. Berlin based newcomer, Barbara Panther, catches the eye with a sultry vocal performance with a sting in the tail. Equally adept at providing softness, her dynamism shimmers alongside the deft production. As per usual, Record Makers have assembled a stellar remix package. Put in the hands of Blackstrobe, the measured quality of General Motors, Detroit, America finds itself infused with a tension that thrills and flickers with a brooding energy that belongs on the dancefloor. Gavin Russom (DFA) calms the restless pulse at the heart of Snake, evoking the Aztec spirit of DJ Rolando before overdrawn arpeggiated solos are used to disrupt with pleasing effect.
